We are never defined by our own circumstances. We often believe our existence is the product of our external environment. The thoughts we often fabricate in our minds soon take form once we believe a certain way. The only limitations we create are the ones in our own minds. Virgil Abloh was someone who did not let his circumstances shape his character.

Virgil had an uncharacteristic approach towards fashion by immersing his beliefs and desires into his designs. His background as an engineer and architect never seemed to leave his side as he drew inspiration from shapes, classical art, and architecture. Abloh’s desires went far beyond the love for fashion by helping pave the way for other young Black designers. He seized every opportunity that presented itself by becoming the first black creative director for Louis Vuitton, performing at Coachella, designing for Ikea, collaborating with Kanye, and creating some of Nike’s biggest collaborations. If there was an idea he would transform those ideas into physical existence.
"You know who I am most inspired by? That kid that hasn’t had the chance to showcase their brand yet. Those kids motivate the work I do every day. That’s the muse for me: the next generation. And I want my work to inspire people like them” – Virgil Abloh
Virgil’s inspiration went far beyond his love for designing by being a master of life. He pushed far beyond the boundaries of his critics and competition. If there is a lesson to be learned, we should remember to bet on ourselves and our ideas because every chance we take is a step closer to our desires.
“Life is so short you can't waste even a day subscribing to what someone thinks you can do versus knowing what you can do” – Virgil Abloh
